Big tides around the Coast this week have resulted in some unpredictable fishing in the usual spots favoured by local anglers.
Kingfish seem to be the catch of the week with plenty of throwbacks reported and keepers up to 80cm. Barrenjoey, West Head and inside Pittwater are the best spots using live yakkas, slimies and squid for bait. |

Jewfish are plentiful in the waters surrounding Juno Point, Gunyha Point and Flint and Steel.
Anglers have reported decent sized catches measuring up to 60cm, with plenty of throw backs. The catch of the week was a big Jewfish weighing a whopping 38kg at Juno Point. There have been a few small Kingfish snared in and around Pittwater, using squid for bait but unfortunately the big ones are nowhere to be seen. |

The school holidays are here and with them brings a rush of activity on the Central Coast’s waterways.
Thankfully though the fish are still biting. There are plenty of small Jewfish for the taking down on the Hawkesbury. While most are throwbacks we have snared the occasional fish measuring up to 60cm. Try your luck with some fresh squid. |

As the weather heats up so too do the number of fishermen on the Central Coast waterways. Jewfish are plentiful around the mouth of the Hawkesbury River this week with plenty of throw backs and a few keepers measuring up to 6kg. The best bait for snaring one is fresh squid and peeled Hawkesbury prawns at most times of the day except for mid tide. |

The protection of the state’s valuable fisheries resource will be further strengthened following the passing yesterday of the Fisheries Management Amendment Bill 2009, Minister for Primary Industries Tony Kelly said today.
“We have also amended the Fisheries Management Act 1994 in order to formally recognise the importance of Aboriginal cultural fishing in NSW and strengthen penalties for illegal fishing activity,” Mr Kelly said. “Fishing is a historically important part of indigenous culture and custom and the changes to the Fisheries Management Act will more adequately reflect that significance. |
